What is Get Kids Ready?
Starting in 2026, Get Kids Ready (GKR) will be a new, free initiative for 4-year-olds in childcare to get school readiness instruction at their childcare provider. This new program will enhance school readiness instruction in participating childcare providers, while state funding will make Get Kids Ready free for families.
Playful Hearts ChildCare is an approved site for Get Kids Ready.

Ex 1: Child turns 4 July 28th, they are eligible for the GKR program in September of the year they turn

GKR is a free program and there is no fee for this program.
Wrap around care rates are determined according to your schedule as follows if your child is scheduled for longer than the 3.5 hours of GKR:
- Schedules of more than 5 hours outside of the GKR program hours are considered a full day rate.
- Schedules of 5 hours or less outside of the

NOTE: There are days where the GKR 4K program is not in operation on a M/W/F, due to the time allotments we allocated for the program, but the regular 4K program will still be offered if the center is open. See Important Dates below for more information.

If your child does not currently attend Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, then you have the option of adding them on the schedule for free Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00am to 11:30am from Monday, July 6, 2026 to Friday, June 25, 2027.
If your child already attends Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the GKR hours, there is no change
If your child does not currently attend Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, then you have the option of adding them on the schedule for free Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00am to 11:30am from Monday, July 6, 2026 to Friday, June 25, 2027.
If your child already attends Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the GKR hours, there is no change to the program itself. Our regular 4K program will still run Monday through Friday for the full day. The 3.5 hours are free for the GKR program. Wrap around care rates are determined based on the number of hours the child is scheduled outside of those hours.
